Community builds
Some of the best work in our communities is done by people with no budget for a website. Every so often I build one for them at a fraction of my normal fee.
Why I do this
I believe the skills I have were given to me for more than my own gain.
Takeflight is a business and it has to make money, but I do not want it to be only about that. Building for causes like these keeps me honest about why I do this work.
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.
Built like any other Takeflight site
A community build gets the same design, hosting, security and search setup as a paid project. The people a cause helps should find it as easily as they would find a business.
It cannot be completely free, because hosting and tools still cost money, but the build itself is heavily discounted. We agree the terms in writing like any other project, so both of us know where we stand.
The causes I help
Feeding schemes, schools, conservation projects and community organisations that do real work on the ground.
I look for a cause where a proper website would clearly make a difference, whether that is raising support, finding volunteers or showing donors where their money goes. It helps to have one person who can send me news and photographs, so the site keeps telling the story after launch.
The goals I use as a guide
I use the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to decide which causes to take on. They are a clear and widely used way of describing work that makes a lasting difference.

- 01
Tell me about the cause
A plain email is enough. Tell me what it does, who it helps and why a website would change something.
- 02
We talk
We have a call so I can understand the work and what the site needs to do for it.
- 03
You get a proposal
If it is a good fit, you receive a written proposal like any other client, with the discount shown on it.
You do not have to run the cause to help
If you know a project that needs a website, point me to it.
You can also contribute financially. That money is kept separate and only goes towards building and looking after websites for causes. Tell me which project you would like to back, or leave the choice to me.
Talk to me about backing a buildKnow a cause worth backing?
Tell me what it does, who it helps and why a website would make a difference.
